## Short Answer

ScaledMail, Maildoso and Mailreef are three different products that happen to compete for the same buyer. Which one is "better" depends entirely on what you are optimising:

- [Mailreef](https://maildeck.co/alternative/mailreef) wins on raw cost per send at high volume — if you actually send at the 50 emails/mailbox/day it recommends. $240/month per dedicated server with 150+ mailboxes plus $0.001 per email works out to about $2.45 per 1,000 sends. Send conservatively and that advantage evaporates to $5.85.

- [Maildoso](https://maildeck.co/alternative/maildoso) wins on Google Workspace price and speed to first send. At $1.90–2.25 per inbox with built-in domain registration, its Google product is the cheapest per send of the three, and the onboarding is the shortest.

- [ScaledMail](https://maildeck.co/alternative/scaledmail) wins on breadth and hand-holding. It is the only one of the three that sells Google Workspace, Microsoft Outlook and SMTP, and it includes a dedicated Slack channel. You pay for both: $2.00 per Outlook inbox and $3.50 per Google mailbox are the highest unit prices here.

The honest summary: Mailreef if volume is high and committed, Maildoso if Google-only and fast, ScaledMail if you want one vendor and a human to talk to. None of the three is cheapest on Microsoft Outlook, which is where most high-volume programmes end up — we come back to that at the end.

## They Are Not Priced on the Same Unit

This is why head-to-head comparisons of these three usually go wrong. Each prices on a different thing:

| | ScaledMail | Maildoso | Mailreef |
|---|---|---|---|
| Priced per | Domain (Outlook, SMTP) or mailbox (Google) | Mailbox | Server, plus per email sent |
| Infrastructure | Google Workspace, Microsoft Outlook, SMTP | Google Workspace, shared-IP SMTP | Dedicated SMTP servers only |
| Headline price | $50/domain Outlook (25 inboxes), $3.50/mailbox Google, $3.75/domain SMTP (4 inboxes) | $1.90–2.25/inbox | $240/mo per server (12-month) or $249 month-to-month, + $0.001/send |
| Mailboxes per domain | 25 (Outlook), 2–3 (Google), 4 (SMTP) | Varies by product | 3 recommended |
| IP model | Managed across official pools and SMTP | Shared pools on SMTP; dedicated IP is a $99/mo add-on | Dedicated IP per server |
| Commitment | No contracts | Monthly | 12 months at $240, or $249 month-to-month |
| Sequencer support | All SMTP-compatible tools | All SMTP-compatible tools | Smartlead, Instantly |
| Support | Dedicated Slack channel | Standard | Live technical support |

Two consequences fall straight out of this table. First, Mailreef's per-send fee means your bill moves with volume — at 500,000 emails a month that is $500 on top of the server. Second, Mailreef's 3-mailbox-per-domain recommendation is the heaviest domain overhead of the three: 1,000 mailboxes means roughly 334 domains to register and keep authenticated, against 40 for ScaledMail Outlook.

## Head-to-Head at 1,000 Mailboxes

| Provider and product | Monthly cost | Domains to manage |
|---|---|---|
| ScaledMail — SMTP ($3.75/domain, 4 per domain) | $937.50 | 250 |
| Mailreef — 7 servers at $240 | $1,680 + per-send fees | ~334 |
| Maildoso | $1,900–2,250 | Varies |
| ScaledMail — Outlook ($50/domain, 25 per domain) | $2,000 | 40 |
| ScaledMail — Google Workspace | $3,500 | ~400 |

At this scale Mailreef's per-send fee is not a rounding error. 1,000 mailboxes sending at its recommended 50/day over 22 working days is 1.1M emails, which adds $1,100 to the $1,680 of server cost. Price it at the volume you will actually send, not at the server line alone.

### Normalised: cost per 1,000 sends

The number that lets you compare these products honestly. Each provider's own stated or implied daily limit, over 22 working days:

| Provider and product | Sends / mailbox / day | Cost per 1,000 sends |
|---|---|---|
| Mailreef — at its recommended 50/day | 50 | $2.45 |
| ScaledMail — SMTP | 10–15 | $3.42 |
| Maildoso — Google Workspace | 18–22 | $4.32–5.11 |
| Mailreef — at a conservative 15/day | 15 | $5.85 |
| Maildoso — shared-IP SMTP | 10–15 | $6.91–8.18 |
| ScaledMail — Google Workspace | 18–22 | $7.95 |
| ScaledMail — Outlook | 10 (its stated max) | $9.09 |

Mailreef's position at the top of this table rests entirely on sending 50 cold emails per mailbox per day. That is a high number for cold email — for reference, we hold Google Workspace at 18–22, Microsoft Outlook Premium at 8–10 and private SMTP at 10–15, because above those thresholds spam classification rates climb and recovery costs 2–4 weeks of reduced volume. If you plan to send at Mailreef's ceiling, price it there. If you plan to send conservatively, Mailreef is mid-table, not cheapest.

## Where the Send Limits in That Table Come From

The cost-per-1,000-sends column is only as good as the sends-per-day figure behind it, so it is worth being explicit about what those numbers are and are not. They are not platform limits. Google documents its own [Workspace sending limits](https://support.google.com/a/answer/166852), and Microsoft documents [Exchange Online limits](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/servicedescriptions/exchange-online-service-description/exchange-online-limits) that reach 10,000 recipients per mailbox per day. No cold email programme survives anywhere near either ceiling.

| Figure | Where it comes from | How to treat it |
|---|---|---|
| Platform limits (10,000/day on Exchange Online) | Microsoft and Google service documentation | A throttle, not a capacity. Irrelevant to cold sending. |
| Mailreef's 50 per mailbox per day | The vendor's own recommendation | Their figure, used as published. We would not provision to it. |
| Our 18–22 (Google), 8–10 (Outlook Premium), 10–15 (SMTP) | Platform data across 833K+ managed inboxes | The thresholds above which we see spam classification climb |

This matters for the comparison rather than for the principle. Mailreef is cheapest per send only at 50 a day; at a conservative 15 it is mid-table. Because each vendor's position in the normalised table moves with the send rate you assume, the honest way to read it is to substitute your own rate — and you can check whether yours is sustainable from the receivers' side rather than ours, through [Google Postmaster Tools](https://postmaster.google.com/) and [Microsoft SNDS](https://sendersupport.olc.protection.outlook.com/snds/).

## Four Structural Differences That Outlive the Pricing

### 1. Who else is on your IP

Mailreef gives a dedicated IP with every server, which is the cleanest model of the three: your reputation is entirely your own behaviour. Maildoso's SMTP runs shared pools, so you inherit the behaviour of senders you cannot see — a dedicated IP is available as a $99/month add-on, which materially changes its effective per-inbox price. ScaledMail manages across official provider pools and SMTP. The trade-off is not simply "dedicated is better": a dedicated IP starts at zero reputation and has to earn it, while official Microsoft and Google pools carry inherited trust from day one. Our [shared IP vs dedicated IP analysis](https://maildeck.co/blog/shared-ip-vs-dedicated-ip-cold-email) works through when each wins.

### 2. Domain overhead

Every domain is a registration fee, a DNS record set to get right and a burn signal to monitor. At 1,000 mailboxes the three differ by an order of magnitude: ~250 domains at ScaledMail SMTP, ~334 at Mailreef, 40 at ScaledMail Outlook. Since 67% of the 1,000+ cold email domains we have audited carried at least one critical authentication error, more domains is not a neutral cost — it is more surface for the single most common failure in cold email.

### 3. Commitment and portability

Mailreef's $240 rate requires a 12-month commitment; month-to-month is $249. It also integrates with Smartlead and Instantly specifically, where the other two connect to any SMTP-compatible sequencer. ScaledMail states no contracts. If you are not yet certain about your sending profile, a 12-month commitment on a single infrastructure type is the riskiest of the three positions to take.

### 4. What the base price already includes

The three bundle different amounts of work into the headline number, which is the quietest way a cheaper unit price becomes a more expensive month:

| Included in base price | ScaledMail | Maildoso | Mailreef |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dedicated IP | Managed pools, not dedicated | No — $99/mo add-on on SMTP | Yes, one per server |
| Automated SPF, DKIM and DMARC | Not published | Not published | Yes |
| Domain registration | Not published | Bundled into certain plans | Registration tools included |
| Pre-warmed inventory | Not published | Not published | Pre-warmed servers available |
| Developer API | Not published | Not published | Yes |
| Support model | Dedicated Slack channel | Standard | Live technical support |
| Sequencer compatibility | Any SMTP-compatible tool | Any SMTP-compatible tool | Smartlead and Instantly |
| Provisioning speed | Not published | Mailboxes in minutes | Not published |

Read that table in two directions. Mailreef bundles the most into the base price — dedicated IP, automated authentication, registration tools, API, live support — which is part of why its per-server number looks high next to a per-inbox one. Maildoso's $99/month dedicated IP add-on runs the other way: it is the line that moves its effective price above the $1.90–2.25 headline, and it is the one most comparisons leave out.

“Not published” means the vendor does not state it publicly and we did not guess. Every one of those cells is a question worth asking in writing before an invoice, because automated authentication in particular is the difference between DNS being someone's job and DNS being nobody's job — and 67% of the 1,000+ cold email domains we have audited carried at least one critical authentication error.

## Which of the Three to Pick

- High, committed volume on SMTP, one sequencer: Mailreef. The per-send model rewards you for actually using the capacity, and the dedicated IP per server is clean.

- Google Workspace only, moving fast, price-sensitive: Maildoso. Cheapest per send on Google of the three, with domain registration built in.

- Several infrastructure types and a support channel: ScaledMail. It is the only one of the three that covers Outlook, Google and SMTP, and the dedicated Slack channel is a real product feature for teams that want managed provisioning.

- Avoid Maildoso's SMTP if shared reputation is a live concern — or budget the $99/month dedicated IP add-on into the comparison, which moves its effective price above its headline.

## Where MailDeck Fits

We sell against all three, so treat this section as what it is. The specific gap it fills: none of these three is cheap on Microsoft Outlook, and Outlook is where high-volume programmes usually end up, because it allows far more inboxes per domain than Google or SMTP.

| Product | Cost per inbox | Inboxes per domain | 1,000 inboxes | Per 1,000 sends |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MailDeck Outlook Normal | $0.30 | 100 | $300 / 10 domains | $3.03 |
| MailDeck Outlook Premium | $0.40 | 100 | $400 / 10 domains | $2.02 |
| MailDeck private SMTP | $0.50 | 5 | $500 / 200 domains | $1.82 |
| MailDeck Google Workspace | $2.99 | 5 | $3,000 / 200 domains | $6.80 |
| ScaledMail Outlook | $2.00 | 25 | $2,000 / 40 domains | $9.09 |

Against ScaledMail's Outlook product specifically, that is $300 against $2,000 a month at 1,000 inboxes, with 10 domains to authenticate instead of 40 — [the full ScaledMail comparison](https://maildeck.co/alternative/scaledmail) works the gap at 200, 500 and 1,000 inboxes.

Three places where we are not the answer, for completeness. Google Workspace under about 30 inboxes: ScaledMail at $3.50/mailbox beats our $3.90 Starter rate, and Maildoso beats both. Hands-on managed service: ScaledMail's dedicated Slack channel is more contact than our standard support. Sending at 50 emails per mailbox per day: we will not provision for that, because our platform data says it burns domains; if you are committed to that volume profile, Mailreef is built for it and we are not.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### ScaledMail vs Maildoso vs Mailreef: which is better for cold email?

They optimise for different things. Mailreef is cheapest per send at high volume — about $2.45 per 1,000 sends at its recommended 50 emails per mailbox per day, from $240/month per dedicated server plus $0.001 per email. Maildoso is cheapest on Google Workspace at $1.90-2.25 per inbox and fastest to set up, with built-in domain registration. ScaledMail is the only one of the three covering Google Workspace, Microsoft Outlook and SMTP together, with a dedicated Slack channel, at the highest unit prices: $2.00 per Outlook inbox and $3.50 per Google mailbox.

### How much do ScaledMail, Maildoso and Mailreef cost at 1,000 mailboxes?

At 1,000 mailboxes on published 2026 pricing: ScaledMail SMTP is $937.50/month across 250 domains, Mailreef is $1,680/month for 7 servers plus per-send fees across roughly 334 domains, Maildoso is $1,900-2,250/month, ScaledMail Outlook is $2,000/month across 40 domains, and ScaledMail Google Workspace is $3,500/month. Mailreef's per-send fee is significant at this scale: 1,000 mailboxes at its recommended 50 sends per day adds about $1,100 per month on top of the server cost.

### Does Mailreef's per-send fee make it expensive?

It makes Mailreef's cost scale with how much you actually send, which cuts both ways. At $0.001 per email, 100,000 emails adds $100 a month and 500,000 adds $500, on top of $240 per server. Because the server cost is fixed and the per-send cost is linear, Mailreef gets cheaper per send the harder you push each mailbox: about $2.45 per 1,000 sends at its recommended 50 emails per mailbox per day, but $5.85 at a conservative 15 per day. Price it at the volume you will genuinely send.

### Does Maildoso use shared IP addresses?

Maildoso's SMTP product routes through shared IP pools, so your sending reputation is affected by other senders on the same IPs, and you have no visibility into who they are or how they manage their lists. A dedicated IP is available as a $99/month add-on, which raises the effective per-inbox cost above the $1.90-2.25 headline rate. Its Google Workspace product sends through official Google IP pools, where this concern does not apply in the same way.

### How many mailboxes per domain do these providers allow?

ScaledMail runs 25 mailboxes per domain on Outlook, 2-3 on Google Workspace and 4 on SMTP. Mailreef recommends a maximum of 3 mailboxes per domain. Maildoso varies by product. This drives real cost: at 1,000 mailboxes, Mailreef's ratio means roughly 334 domains to register, authenticate and monitor, against 40 for ScaledMail's Outlook product. Since 67% of the 1,000+ cold email domains we have audited had at least one critical DNS authentication error, more domains means more surface for the most common failure in cold email.

### Which of the three is cheapest for Microsoft Outlook inboxes?

Of the three, only ScaledMail sells Microsoft Outlook inboxes, at $50 per domain for 25 inboxes, which is $2.00 per inbox. Maildoso does not offer Microsoft 365 Outlook, and Mailreef sells dedicated SMTP servers only. If Outlook is the requirement, the comparison set has to widen beyond these three.

### Do any of these three require a contract?

Mailreef's $240/month server rate requires a 12-month commitment; its month-to-month plan is $249. ScaledMail states no contracts. Maildoso bills monthly. If your sending profile is not yet settled, a 12-month commitment on a single infrastructure type is the least reversible of the three positions.

### What is included in the base price at ScaledMail, Maildoso and Mailreef?

Mailreef bundles the most: every plan includes a dedicated server and dedicated IP, automated SPF, DKIM and DMARC, domain registration tools, live technical support, spammer screening and a developer API, with pre-warmed servers available. ScaledMail includes a dedicated Slack channel and manages across official provider pools, with reporting as a paid add-on at $5 per domain on Outlook. Maildoso bundles domain registration into certain plans and provisions mailboxes in minutes, but its SMTP product runs on shared IP pools and a dedicated IP is a $99 per month add-on. That add-on is the line most comparisons leave out, and it pushes Maildoso's effective cost above its $1.90-2.25 headline.

### How many cold emails per mailbox per day should I actually send?

Far fewer than the platforms permit. Microsoft documents an Exchange Online recipient rate limit of 10,000 per mailbox per day and Google documents its own Workspace limits, but those are throttles rather than cold email capacity. Across 833K+ managed inboxes we hold Google Workspace at 18-22 per inbox per day, Microsoft Outlook Premium at 8-10, Outlook Normal at 4-5 and private SMTP at 10-15, because above those thresholds spam classification rates climb and recovery costs 2-4 weeks of reduced volume. Mailreef recommends up to 50 per mailbox per day; that is its published figure, and its cost-per-send advantage depends on it. Price any of these providers at the rate you will genuinely send, not at the rate that makes the arithmetic look best.

## Methodology

MailDeck figures come from our published [pricing page](https://maildeck.co/pricing) and platform data: 833K+ managed inboxes, 3,000+ domains, 1,631+ clients, 50M+ emails delivered monthly. The DNS error rate comes from an audit of 1,000+ client domains. Safe sends per inbox per day are the limits we enforce on our own platform. All prices exclude domain registration.

Unverified: competitor prices and product details come from our own comparison pages for [ScaledMail](https://maildeck.co/alternative/scaledmail), [Maildoso](https://maildeck.co/alternative/maildoso) and [Mailreef](https://maildeck.co/alternative/mailreef), which were checked against each vendor's public pricing in May 2026 and have not been re-checked on the vendors' sites since. Cost per 1,000 sends uses each vendor's own stated daily limit where it publishes one (Mailreef 50, ScaledMail Outlook 10) and otherwise applies our limit for the matching infrastructure type; both cases are labelled in the table. Figures are computed over 22 working days per month.
